CAMBODIA,​ PHNOM PENH, August​ 09, 2011-The national Olympic committee of Cambodia announced on Tuesday that international partner is trying to train Cambodian coaches about bicycle racing to attend the international events and also to upgrade the sport field in the country.

Van Chamroeun, secretary general of Olympic committee of Cambodia said: "now we have a Canadian coach helping us. The training will be focused on the skills and techniques, he stresses in the press conference.

Haushang Amiri, a Canadian citizen has 40 year experience for bicycle riding racer will improve sport in the country.  The training will last from 8- 18 August. Currently Cambodia has 12 sport clubs and 25 coaches will attend the training program.

Cambodia will not send bike rider to Indonesia for the SEA game in indonesia, citing that it lacked sport riders and financial support. But Cambodia sent its sport riders to Thailand in 2007 and 2005 in Philippines.

ASEAN to continue building economic community

MANADO, Indonesia, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Ministers in charge of economic, commerce, trade and investment in ASEAN Member States will be gathered in Manado, Indonesia this week to continue their work on building the time-bound ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by its target year 2015, and to discuss ways to further engage Dialogue Partners and other stakeholders in the process, a statement issued by ASEAN Secretariat said here on Tuesday.

The ASEAN Economic Ministers, as these Ministers are collectively called at ASEAN level, oversee the implementation of measures in the AEC Blueprint that fall under their purview, including those pertaining to trade in goods, services and investment.

Ministers and their Senior Economic Officials will arrive on Tuesday for preparatory meetings with each other before the 43rd ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting and Related Meetings open on Wednesday afternoon.

Given that Indonesia is the Chair of ASEAN this year, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Boediono will launch the Opening Ceremony, while the Meetings will be chaired by the country's Minister of Trade, Minister Mari Elka Pangestu.

In line with Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship theme "ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations", the Ministers have outlined their economic vision for 2011 first, to achieve significant progress in realizing the ASEAN Community by 2015 which includes more emphasis on the AEC Blueprint's third pillar towards a region of equitable economic developmentfor a more inclusive Community; second, to increase the utilization of the ASEAN+1 Free Trade Area agreements while responding to the evolving regional architecture, and identifying and implementing ASEAN initiatives that may contribute to the global community; and third; to start thinking of an ASEAN vision beyond 2015.

This week's series of Meetings will begin with the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) Council Meeting, followed by the ASEAN Investment Area (AIA) Council Meeting on the same day. This would be the AFTA Council's 25th Meeting since its establishment in 1992, and the AIA Council's 14th Meeting since its establishment in 1998. Both Councils meet annually. The ASEAN Mekong Basin Development Cooperation (AMBDC), established in 1996, will also hold its 13th Meeting here this week.

Cambodia needs military aid, except banned weapons: Defense Minister

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia needs all forms of foreign military assistance in order to strengthen its national defense capacity and to ensure security and public order, but the country needn't aid in banned weapons, Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tea Banh, Minister of Defense, said Tuesday.

"Cambodia always sticks to the policy of neutrality, non- alignment and peaceful life, but the country still reserves its rights to accept foreign military aid such as weapons, ammunition, military training equipment and supplies, and other forms of assistance," he said at a national workshop to disseminate the law on the prohibition of nuclear, biological and radiological weapons.

At the meantime, he said Cambodia absolutely prohibits the production, acquisition, transfer, use, and stockpiling of nuclear, chemical, biological and radiological weapons in order to ensure peace, safety, and the well-being of people as well as the security and peace in the region and the world.

The law was promulgated in December 2009.

Cambodia pulls back troops from border with Thailand

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Cambodian troops were pulled back from the border area with Thailand on Monday.

Kun Kim, deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, who presided over the pull-back ceremony, said the redeployment of the troops was made at the order of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The troops, pulled back to their hometown in Kampong Thom province, were based at Choam Te border area with Thailand, located some 20 kilometers east of Preah Vihear Temple.

According to Kun Kim, the redeployment of the troops was made following the ruling by the International Court of Justice last month. However, the pull-back was made at border areas outside the provisional demilitarized zone that defined by the ICJ's order only.

Cambodia and Thai troops have engaged in many times of fighting since July 2008 when Preah Vihear temple was enlisted as the World Heritage site.

Dozens of troops and civilians on both sides had been killed and tens of thousands of civilians had fled home for safe shelters.

Last Friday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen told his cabinet members that the situation along the Cambodia-Thai border has been eased, especially, after the Pheu Thai Party won last month's general election.

He, then, advised Ministry of Information and other ministries as well as military to improve environment of trust so as to have good cooperation with the Pheu Thai-formed government.

Chinese language going popular: Cambodia's Chinese Association

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese language is going popular in the country, President of Chinese Association in Cambodia Duong Chhiv said on Monday evening at a reception ceremony for volunteer teachers from China.

China's Office of Chinese Language Council International sent 58 volunteers to teach Chinese language for one year in Cambodia in order to promote cooperation on language and culture.

Duong said that those volunteers would teach in 22 Chinese schools in the country.

"Chinese language is going popular in Cambodia today as this country has been attracting more and more business people from China," he said. "The volunteers will help to build the quality of Chinese language education in Cambodia."

Wei Ning, official of Consular Affairs at Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, said it was the second time that China sent volunteers to teach Chinese language in Cambodia. The group of 38 volunteers who arrived Cambodia last year finished their one-year teaching mission.

"The volunteers have not only helped to build Chinese knowledge for Cambodian students, but also boost traditional friendship ties between Chinese and Cambodians," Wei said. "It is also a chance to exchange culture between Chinese teachers and Cambodian learners."

Wang Lingling, the team leader of the volunteers, said the group consists of 12 male teachers and 46 female teachers.

According to the Chinese Association in Cambodia which oversees all Chinese schools in the country, there are 55 Chinese schools with more than 30,000 students across Cambodia.
