Cambodia to ask ASEAN to send observers to Cambodia-Thai disputed border area: FM Posted: 16 Feb 2011 04:07 AM PST PHNOM PENH, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia will ask ASEAN to send observers to the disputed areas between Cambodia and Thailand near Preah Vihear temple to ensure a permanent cease fire, Hor Namhong, minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, said on Wednesday.

Opposition Leader Backs Gov’t on Preah Vihear Posted: 16 Feb 2011 02:45 AM PST PNHM PENH, CAMBODIA, FEB 16, 2011-Cambodia's main opposition leader Sam Rainsy expressed his support to Cambodian government to resolve border conflict with Thailand via regional and international mechanism despite Thailand insisted bilateral talks. In a letter to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen dated February 11, which is obtained by DAP Media Center on Wednesday, read that "I would like to extend my strong support to the actions of the government [Cambodia] which filed a complaint to the UNSC to organize an immediate meeting of the UNSC to put an end to the war of Thailand against Cambodia." He added that the government also decided properly to stop using bilateral mechanism to settle the dispute. He raised that Cambodia would benefit if it use Paris Accord 1991 which all signatory parties have to obey the Cambodia's sovereignty. The self-exiled opposition leader mentioned that ASEAN members would not help to put an end to the dispute as some members of ASEAN were no clear position to help Cambodia for this matter. Sam Rainsy also urged Cambodian Government led by Cambodian's People Party (CPP) to file a suit to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Thai political and military leaders of crime of aggression against Cambodia and criminal war. Moreover, he suggested that the government should set up a Preah Vihear Foundation to raise fund to preserve the temple adding France should be asked for help in term of an internationally-recognized map made by Franco-Siem in 1900s. In addition, Sam Rainsy said that he was ready to give any assistance to Cambodian government with no political exploit in order to counter the aggression of Thailand against Cambodia. Thai Soldiers Fire Machine Guns, Throw Grenades into Cambodia Posted: 15 Feb 2011 11:46 PM PST PREAH VIHEAR, CAMBODIA, FEB 16, 2011-Thai armies on Tuesday night fired at Cambodian troops at Preah Vihear border despite the UN Security Council insisted the two neighboring practice permanent cease fire at the conflict border. A military source at Preah Vihear temple of Cambodia confirmed that hundreds of grenades and artillery were fired and threw into Cambodia territory, starting from 6:52pm, on Tuesday evening to 5:00am on Wednesday morning around Phnom Troab, near Preah Vihear temple The source added that Cambodian soldiers remained calm, citing that they would fight back if Thai soldier across to Cambodia's. The official also told Deum Ampil Media Center that around 8:00pm on February 15th, Thai military commander telephoned Cambodian army commanders and accused Cambodia soldier moving under a barb fences into their territory. However, Cambodia soldier has rejected, adding that they stood only in Cambodian territory. The action of Thai soldiers are violating UNSC's declaration because Thai soldier wanted Cambodian soldiers to reduce patience and fight back but Cambodians did not. |
