Cambodia's capital to host 3rd half marathon in June Posted: 06 Feb 2013 09:40 PM PST PHNOM PENH, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia will host the 3rd international half marathon on June 16 here in order to promote sports and attract more foreign visitors to this fascinating city, a senior sports official said Wednesday. Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of National Olympic Committee, said the 21-kilometer Phnom Penh International Half Marathon will be held in front of the Royal Palace. He said there will also be a 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer and 3- kilometer running for amateur athletes. The event is also to celebrate the birthday of the former Queen Mother Norodom Monineath and the 119th anniversary of the World's Olympic Day. Last year's event attracted about 2,500 Cambodian and foreign runners, he said, expecting that there will be more participants this year. The participation fee is 35 U.S. dollars for a foreign runner and 5 U.S. dollars for a Cambodian. |
