PHNOM PENH, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Securities Exchange (CSX) on Monday broke ground for the construction of a 3-storey building in the heart of Phnom Penh, the country's capital.

"The construction of the building reflects the government's firm stance in developing the stock market and the building will build more confidence among both local and foreign investors in the CSX," Cambodian deputy Prime Minister and finance minister Keat Chhon said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The building will cost 4 million U.S. dollars and the construction will be completed in early 2014, he said.

It is located near the capital's historical site Wat Phnom in Duan Penh district.

In the original plan in December 2009, the country announced to build the CSX building in a South Korea-invested Camko City on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.

"The government has decided to cancel the plan to construct the stock market building at the Camko City because it is a bit far," Hong Sok Hour, CSX's general director, told Xinhua over telephone. "The new location is in the heart of the city and is in the financial area."

The CSX was officially launched trading on April 18, 2012 at a temporary office at the Canadian Tower. To date, only one state- owned enterprise, Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, has listed on the stock market.

The CSX was initiated by the Korean Exchange in 2007. It is a joint venture between the government of Cambodia holding 55 percent of the stakes and the Korean Exchange owning the remaining 45 percent.

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- About 20,000 Buddhist monks gathered in front of Phnom Penh's Royal Palace on Saturday evening to chant and pray for the soul of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk on the 100th day since he died in October last year.

The Buddhism-customary ceremony was attended by Sihanouk's wife Queen Mother Norodom Monineath and his son King Norodom Sihamoni, along with tens of thousands of royal families, dignitaries and common people.

The monks, led by Venerable Tep Vong, Great Supreme Patriarch of the nation's Buddhist monks, had come from pagodas throughout the country.

At the event, King Norodom Sihamoni expressed sincere and heartfelt thanks to all monks and laypeople for holding a mass rally to mark the 100th day of his father's death.

Sihanouk died of illness at the age of 90 in Beijing on Oct. 15, last year. Currently, his body is lying in state at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh for the public to pay their last respect.

The body will be moved from the Palace to a custom-built crematorium at the Veal Preah Meru Square next to the Palace on Feb. 1 and kept for another three days at the site before it is cremated on Feb. 4.

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday released a list of foreign leaders who will attend the royal cremation ceremony of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk on Feb. 4 in the Cambodian capital.

According to a ministry statement, Jia Qinglin, Jean-Marc Ayrault and Prince Akishino will be received in separate royal audience by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath at the Royal Palace.

Sihanouk died of illness at the age of 90 in Beijing on Oct. 15, last year. Currently, his body is lying in state at the Royal Palace for the public to pay tribute.

The body will be moved from the Royal Palace to a custom-built crematorium at the Veal Preah Meru Square next to the Palace on Feb. 1 and kept for another three days at the site before it is cremated on Feb. 4.

Cambodian government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said last week that at least 1.5 million people are expected to attend the ceremony.

A security force of about 11,000 will be deployed in the capital to ensure security and public order during the ceremony, said Lt. Gen. Kirt Chantharith, spokesman for the National Police.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has said it will be the kingdom's largest funeral to express the deepest gratitude to the King Father for his royal crusade to gain independence from France in 1953 and lead national construction from 1954 to 1970.

Sihanouk suffered from various forms of cancer, diabetes and hypertension and had been treated by Chinese doctors in Beijing for years before his death.

He wrote in a royal letter in January 2012 that he requested his body to be cremated instead of being buried and his ashes to be put in an urn, preferably made of gold, and placed in a stupa at the Royal Palace.
