LONDON, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Young artists from 100 countries on Friday gathered in Nottingham, Britain, for an event to showcase their work and a chance to shine.

World Event Young Artists 2012, the first of the kind, was attended by about 1,000 young artists, of whom, more than 40 were from China, with their ages ranging from 16 to 30. The Chinese artists have brought with them artistic works, including paintings, sculptures, photos.

"World Event Young Artists is a rare opportunity to see the work of original creative talents from all corners of the globe, but what makes it genuinely unique is the opportunity to meet all of the artists involved," said Silke Pillinger, director of the event.

Professor Terry Shave with the Nottingham Trent University, said: "Following the successful UK Young Artists event that took place in Derby in 2010, we perceived a clear need to provide a platform, here in the UK, for young emerging artists to collaborate with their international counterparts within a large scale, cross-art form festival environment."

Zheng Xuewu, an artistic director with the Beijing Studio Center, who is also one of the partners of the event, said the young Chinese artists they selected for the event are outstanding ones in China, and their works are chosen after six-months assessments by experts.

During the 10-day event, the city of Nottingham in the East Midlands of England will host various forms of activities, including exhibitions, performances, concerts and workshops to offer the public a unique opportunity to appreciate diverse kinds of arts from countries such as Brazil, Russia, China, India, Iran, the United States, Cambodia, the South Africa, Spain and Britain.
