ASEAN knowledge contest kicks off in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 5th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition kicked off here on Friday, aiming at promoting ASEAN awareness and bridging the bloc's people-to-people connectivity.

Three contestants from each country in the ten ASEAN member states had joined the contest.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Cambodia's Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said the competition would help raise awareness about the diversity of culture, art, history and social and economic development in ASEAN among youth.

It was also to mark the 45th anniversary of ASEAN founding.

As a result of the contest, students from the Philippines won No. 1, followed by Cambodia and Thailand at No. 2 and 3 respectively.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

“My ASEAN & China Multimedia Art Exhibition Series: Malaysia” Successfully Concluded

"My ASEAN & China Multimedia Art Exhibition Series: Malaysia" was successfully concluded. This event was co-organized by ACC and the Global Reach Co. Ltd (Beijing). It gained affirmation of public and widespread participation.

 More than hundreds of media outlets reported and promoted this event to an audience of 300,000. It turned out that around 1000 people from all walks of life came to visit, including the Foreign Ministers of the Kingdom of Thailand and Cambodia, and the ambassadors and their wives of Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malta, Croatia and Mongolia. In addition, China's famous master of traditional Chinese painting Li Baolin and artist Li Jiuhong, and well-known Chinese and foreign journalists paid visit to ACC as well.

During this event, other activities were held as well, including the lectures titled "Respect Nature-What I Learned from Malaysia" and "Human and Nature-What I Learned from Malaysia", delivered by the renowned photographer, journalist and artist Ms. Rita Zhao.

With the success of this event, we are looking forward that "My ASEAN & China Multimedia Art Exhibition Series: Cambodia" will be better held. We also believe that it will contribute to the friendship and mutual understanding between ASEAN and China.

Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia meet to boost triangle area development

HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The fourth conference of the National Assembly (NA)'s Committee for External Relations of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) opened in Vietnam's central Nghe An province, some 260 km south of capital Hanoi on Thursday.

Themed "The role of NA in supporting development in the triangle area," the conference aims at strengthening and promoting cooperative relations for the socio-economic development in border areas.

Addressing the conference, Uong Chu Luu, vice chairman of Vietnam's NA said that the conference is an opportunity to discuss and share experiences on the development of the triangle area and set cooperation directions for the related agencies.

Speaking highly of the role of three countries' NAs Luu proposed to continue revise the establishment of the Inter-NA Committee in order to supervise and support the implementation of the policies and agreements reached by the three countries'NAs.

During the conference, heads of Laos and Cambodia delegations shared the views that the CLV development in triangle area is of great significance in such fields as society, economy, security and national defense for all three countries.

The CLV development triangle area consists of 13 provinces including five in Vietnam, four in Laos and four in Cambodia.

Vietnam, Laos cooperate in environmental protection

HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from Vietnam and Laos at a workshop Thursday called on investors of both countries to highlight environmental protection during operations.

At the workshop, "Vietnam-Laos cooperate in investment and environmental protection", the participants heard reports on green economic development in Vietnam, cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in environmental protection for sustainable development, and climate change.

They agreed that the two countries share similarities on the environment, which abounds with rivers and mountains, and bio- diversity.

Currently, more than half of Vietnam's investment projects in Laos are in the environment-related areas, such as energy, agriculture, forestry and mineral mining.

They urged investors from both countries to be well aware of the close ties between environment and development, and attach importance to environmental protection during their operation.

The participants also confirmed further cooperation with each other, and with other countries in the region to exploit effectively forest, mineral and water resources and protect the environment for mutual development.

The workshop, held in the central Vietnamese province of Nghe An province, was co-organized by the Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia Association for Economic Development.
